I loved how you phrased this: "Living according to a schedule keeps the necessities of life maintained rather than being overwhelmed by them sweeping up and through" So true. Finding the balance between that truth and the joy of spontaneity is hard!
“…noticing in real time how grateful I am to have said yes when saying no felt more natural.” I loved this. I definitely tend toward being a creature of habit. Spontaneity feels more like anxiety most of the time. But if I’m honest, most often I’m glad in the moments I’ve said yes to the offscript adventure. A great encouragement to choose them even more. Also, totally relate with the PNW grey and the “let’s drop everything and get outside… the sun is actually out!” way of life Lol
I’m so glad you connected with this! I am right there with you in spontaneity feeling more anxiety-ridden than natural most of the time. I think leaning into moments such as these are so good for us to not take life too seriously. In it with you 🤍 Also, I feel so seen in you understanding this way of life, haha. It’s such a real thing!
“Following a script comes easier to me than living life off book.” This is definitely how I feel so your essay was so inspiring to me! Love those unscripted moments.
I'm so glad I'm not alone in this! Each time a memory like this is built, I try to hold onto it as a reminder to reach for it again when I can tell my heart needs it. Thanks so much for reading 😊
On Wednesday, we took an impromptu visit to the beach (because it was 42 degrees and in New England right now that's balmy). I had other things I should and could do but my toddler loved it and I needed it.
I love this so much!! And how fun that it was something both you and your toddler needed. Beach visits in the winter always make for excellent memory making. Thanks for sharing!
“Making space for whimsy in the process.” Brilliant solution that enables JOY in the journey. Some of my favorite memories were attending last minute high school plays or melodramas with you - leading to much joy and laughter.

I resonated so deeply with this: "craving connection through adventure." Beautiful.
Thanks, Lindsay! 🤍
